CENTENNIAL WOODS REACHES FIVE MILLION-LINEAR-FOOT
RECLAMATION MILESTONE

Renews 85 Miles of Snowfence, Saves State of Wyoming $9 million and Sequesters 9,000 tons of CO2

LARAMIE, WYO. (October 8, 2008)—Centennial Woods, the Laramie-based company that maintains and reclaims Wyoming snowfence, announced today that it has rescued and reused more than five million linear feet of reclaimed wood from Wyoming snowfences. Since 1999, the company has paid the Wyoming Department of Transportation for the right to maintain the state’s snowfences. Centennial Woods sells the reclaimed product around the world in order to pay for that maintenance.

“It’s been a lot of work,” said Bob Johnson, vice president of operations at Centennial Woods. “But it’s a great feeling to turn weathered snowfence into new fence that’s ready for more Wyoming winters.”

Five million linear feet of reclaimed wood represents about 85 miles of snowfence that has been reclaimed and renewed, instead of disposed of, saving the state of Wyoming about $9 million. Prior to the reclamation program, the state of Wyoming disposed of snowfence lumber by burning it. By rescuing and recycling the wood, Centennial Woods has kept more than 9,000 tons of CO2-e greenhouse gases from being emitted into the atmosphere, which is equivalent to the carbon emissions from 1.3 million gallons of gasoline or 25 million miles driven in a car.

“Over the last decade, we’ve independently developed an international market for this reclaimed wood,” said John M. Pope, president and CEO of Centennial Woods. “It’s gratifying to be able to leverage the demand we’ve created for the wood to help the state maintain road safety. It’s also great to save this wood from the burn pile and instead provide customers beautifully weathered all natural reclaimed wood from Wyoming.”
