What type nails are
used to construct CWI wood?
6 penny siding nail with pneumatic air gun or any standard
fasteners preferred by the contactor. |
| 2. |
Do you mill the wood,
ie. Tongue and groove?
No. We suggest board and bat if you want a mill-look finish. |
| 3. |
Can the wood be butted?
Yes, but there is minimum warping, hence, cracks. Whatever
you attach the wood to has to be a dark color. |
| 4. |
Does your wood have nails
in it?
Yes, but we take bent-over nails out. The only nails in a
board have been cut flush on the back side during the harvesting
process. We do not remove them, however, many of these cutoff
nails “jostle” out of the board during transportation. |
| 5. |
Do you kiln dry the wood?
No, it is not necessary. The Wyoming climate, particularly
the wind dries the wood to about 8% moisture content. |
| 6. |
Do you treat the wood
in any way?
Absolutely not; the wood we ship is 100% natural and, unlike
barn wood, it is aged evenly and consistently on both sides
of the board. However, some wood reclaimed from Wyoming
high country can and does age differently on one-side. But,
the "face-out" side is among the most beautiful
grey boards harvested by CWI. |
| 7. |
Do you wire brush the
wood?
No. Again, it is 100% natural with a unique, rustic patina. |
| 8. |
Do you offer measuring
services?
No. We recommend your architect or builder define how much
wood you need. |
| 9. |
What is the smallest
order you will accept?
Any size from a few hundred feet to 500,000 feet or more. |
| 10. |
What is the price of
your wood?
CWI pricing adjusts periodically to changing conditions in
the marketplace. Telephone CWI for current pricing which
is generally based on volume requirements. |
| 11. |
What is your normal delivery
time?
It depends on the size of order, but we are trying to ship
all orders in the same month as the order is placed. |
| 12. |
Do you provide transportation
and delivery?
Yes, in certain instances. The FOB point is Laramie, WY. And
we can deliver orders of 10,000 linear feet or less. The overall
price works out to be about $2.50 per loaded mile. |
| 13. |
Will you provide me with
samples?
Of course; you can order them right off the website. |
| 14. |
What is the waste factor
on delivered wood?
Very low, if any; we try to only ship usable wood. |
| 15. |
What is the origin of your
wood?
Several million feet of Wyoming snow fence that is 10-15 years
old. |
| 16. |
Does the wood need to be sealed
in any way?
This is strictly a customer preference issue. It is natural
and does not need to be sealed. However, some customers do
seal the finished siding. Be aware that sealing will darken
the wood somewhat. |
| 17. |
What species of wood do you have?
Predominately, the wood is Ponderosa Pine, however, we do have Lodge Pole Pine and some Douglas Fir. |
| 18. |
What are the effects of high humidity on your reclaimed wood?
The wood has been used successfully along the U.S. east coast and in high humidity areas like North Georgia, Oklahoma and Japan. If you would like a research paper on the "heartiness" of Ponderosa Pine, you may request it by sending an email to the attention of Gene Klawetter ( gene@centennialwoods.com ) or marketing c/o custserv@centennialwoods.com |
| 19. |
Some barn wood has an offensive order. Does your wood smell?
No |
| 20. |
My neighbor suggested I be careful because some barn wood has insects.
We have many installations across the U.S. and around the world and have never had any customer complain of insects. However, if you want optimum comfort, there is an insect repelling frame-wrap material that you could use underneath the siding. |
| 21. |
Are there any limitations on how I can install the wood?
No. The 16' length and standard 6' width gives a very clean, highly productive finish out. You may install the wood horizontal or vertical. It can be butted, board and batten, board on board and even ship lapped. Note: if you would like pictures of a specific application, contact gene@centennialwoods.com . |
| 22. |
Can the wood be used for inside applications?
ABSOLUTELY! Remember that it does not smell, does not have insects, has never been treated (100% natural), and is a beautiful, rustic, elegant gray. The wood has been used extensively for wine cellars, wainscoting, accent walls/ceilings, etc. It is really pretty as a Compliment to log and/or timber frame structures. With reclaimed Wyoming snow fence, you have the optimum western look. |
| 23. |
In your opinion, what is the number 1 feature/benefit of your reclaimed wood?
Without a doubt, the fact that it is 100% NATURAL; NEVER BEEN TREATED, SEALED OR PAINTED. Not only does the wood age naturally, it is naturally kiln dried in the weather of Wyoming. It is a unique wood. |
| 24. |
Does Centennial Woods consider itself a "green" Company or a "Recycler?"
WITHOUT A DOUBT! Our business model is to "reclaim aged wood, replace the reclaimed wood, and recycle the harvested wood." We definitely renew the resource. Our business model is that of a recycler and not a salvager (barn wood farming). |
| 25. |
Where can I find a comparison of Wyoming snow fence to typical barn wood?
Send an email request to gene@centennialwoods.com . A white paper has been written and will soon be published in an industry periodical. |
